What do I even say? I have kind of been on an emotional high ever since this experience. It was a Tuesday. Tuesday, July 17, 2018 at 9:37 PM. Baby Haidyn Ella Pena was brought into this beautiful world. I met Andrea a few months ago when I did a maternity shoot for her. My heart was drawn to her, and I felt God telling me to do a birth session for her…. for free. So guess what I did? I contacted her, and asked her if she would like to do that. And she said YES.
When I got the text message saying she was heading to the hospital, my heart was beating so hard, you could probably see it through my chest. I had a grin from ear to ear, and in that moment, I felt my true purpose. My purpose was to capture life moments that are cherished forever. Intimate moments that make a woman… a MOTHER, and a man… a FATHER. It felt RIGHT.
I arrived at the hospital, and got a few labor photos of Andrea and Joseph, and she was at 6CM. A few hours went by, and she had the nurse check her again, since she was feeling some pressure. BAM… 8CM. Sometimes labor & births are a blur to many, including the photographer. For me, I can’t remember how much time passed between 6CM and 8CM. But once she was at 8CM, her water broke. Then, within (what felt like) 15 minutes, Kate, the RN was in and having Andrea begin pushing.
Being on the other side of things is so surreal. I was thrilled to experience this as a spectator for the first time ever. I was so emotionally invested in this moment while photographing Andrea’s birth, that I couldn’t actually believe this was real life.
Andrea pushed for about an hour and a half, and at 9:37PM baby Haidyn entered this world at 6 lbs. 13 oz. Andrea and Joseph became parents to a beautiful baby girl. The love between them was so evident, and Joseph was so calm and loving, that it was truly admirable to witness.
I could go on and on, but the truth is, this is Andrea + Joseph’s story to tell. They are so amazing. Thank you, from the bottom of my heart for bringing me along for this journey. Let the fun begin!
